山东省外事翻译中心是山东省人民政府外事办公室所属的全额事业单位，编制22人。省级青年文明号。主要业务有：
　　翻译服务 为办机关和社会各界提供各语种口、笔译和同声传译服务。中心现有英、日、韩、德、法、俄、西七个语种的翻译，主要由常年从事涉外翻译的硕士、留学回国人员和同声传译硕士生组成，并有400余名由高校和涉外部门的教授、译审组成的专兼职翻译队伍。中心先后圆满完成了“东北亚地方政府首脑经济发展研讨会”、“东北亚经济论坛”、“联合国人居节”等重大国际活动的笔译和同声传译任务，受到与会国家领导人和外宾的高度赞扬。翻译中心以高水平、高质量、规范化的服务，已成为山东省有关单位和部门业务资料翻译的权威机构、定点单位。
　　翻译培训 负责全省外事翻译队伍的业务培训，负责全省翻译系列的继续教育培训工作。定期举办各类翻译业务专题研讨班、中短期培训班。同时作为国家外文局全国翻译专业资格（水平）考试考评中心、中国翻译协会山东省唯一指定机构，山东省人事厅、省外办授权的证书考试登记、培训部门，中心正在积极参与全国翻译专业资格（水平）口、笔译等级考试的推广、培训工作。
　　外事服务 按照政事分开的原则，为办机关和社会各界交付的出访、来访团组提供全方位的翻译、接待、渠道、信息服务；利用外事系统的信息、渠道和政策优势，在国际间项目合作、人员交流、招商引资、进出口贸易、外国专家引进和科教文体交流等方面积极牵线搭桥。
　　协会管理 翻译中心负责山东省国际交流合作协会和山东省翻译协会秘书处的各项工作，中心主任兼两协会秘书长。山东省国际交流合作协会的宗旨是推动和发展山东同世界各国特别是友好城市之间的交流与合作，促进我省经济、社会事业的全面发展。通过与世界各国的广泛交流，增进了解，加深友谊，扩大合作，为对外开放和现代化建设做贡献。
　　山东省翻译协会是由山东省翻译领域有影响的企事业单位、社会团体等组织及个人自愿结成的全省性、行业性社会团体，于2005年11月换届成立，会员由全省从事翻译相关业务的单位会员和个人会员组成，是中国翻译协会的团体会员。协会秘书处设在翻译中心，全面负责省译协的各项工作。

Brief Introduction of Translation Center of Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Provincial People’s GovernmentShandong Foreign Affairs Translation and Interpretation Center 

    Translation Center of Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Provincial People’s GovernmentShandong Foreign Affairs Translation and Interpretation Center is a public institution under SDFAO fully supported by the provincial government budget. It is awarded as a provincial-level “Outstanding Youth Organization” with 22 people listed on its payroll. 

    Major services offered by the Center include: 
    Translation & interpretation. The Center provides translation, interpretation and simultaneous interpretation services in different languages to SDFAO and to the market as well. Translation team of the Center is mainly composed of experienced translators with master degree, returned overseas personnel and master degree graduates majoring in SI, which is supplemented by a part-time translators’ team of over 400 professors and professors of translation from universities and colleges and foreign-related agencies. Such a strong team makes translation services possible to cover seven languages – English, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Russian and Spanish. Up to now the Center has offered successful translation and SI services to big international events like “Northeast Asia Economic Cooperation Forum”, “Northeast Asia Economic Forum” and “International Habitat Festival”, and won the high appraisal from the state leaders and foreign guests, which represents a strong testimony to the high-level, quality and standard quality, level and standardization of the services it offered. The Center has now gained authority and momentum, for many government agencies and companies in the province now choose it as a designated agency for document translation and conference interpretation. 
    Translator training. The Center is in charge of the translators’ team training and continuing education training related to translation in Shandong. It also holds regularly translation seminars and medium and short-term training classes. Besides, the Center is the only agency in Shandong responsible for China Aptitude Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI) designated by National Translation Test and Appraisal Center and by Translators Association of China, and the only CATTI certificate registration and training agency authorized by Department of Personnel, Shandong Provincial People’s Government and SDFAO. The Center is now actively engaged in the publication of CATTI and training before examination. 
    Services related to foreign affairs. In line with the principle of lessening government intervention in the work of public institution, the Center provides the government part of SDFAO and the market with all-around translation, reception services as well as channels and information for delegations coming to Shandong and going abroad. It leverages on the advantage of information, channels and policies of the foreign affair system to build a bridge between Shandong and abroad for project cooperation, personnel exchanges, investment invitation, import and export trade, introduction of foreign experts and scientific and technological, cultural and sports exchanges etc. 
    Association management. The Center also serves as the Secretariats of Shandong Association for International Exchange & Cooperation (SDAIEC) and Translators Association of Shandong Province and the Director of the Center is the Secretary-General of both associations. 
    The purpose of SDAIEC is to promote the exchanges and cooperation between Shandong and countries worldwide and sister provinces/cities in particular and to push forward the all-around economic and social development of the province. It will enhance mutual understanding, build friendship and expand cooperation with countries worldwide through extensive exchanges so as to make contribution for opening-up and modernization drive in Shandong. 
    Translators Association of Shandong Province, with its Chinese name changed during the Fifth Council Meeting in November 2005, is a provincial-level and professional social group with legal person status and big influence in the field of translation, which is made up of public institutions, companies, social groups and individuals on a voluntary basis. It is composed of organizational and individual members engaged in translation and related services in Shandong and is itself a group member of Translators Association of China. Translation Center is where the Secretariat is set in and in charge if routine affairs of the Association.
